VoIP for Wii

It has been rumored that the Wii controller will have a microphone built into it so that it will be capable of VoIP. MegaGames claims that Nintendo have even gone as far as taking out several patents, but they don’t have any links to them so there isn’t any solid evidence. I hope that this is true because it means that you communicate when playing online without having to wear a stupid headset. Also the microphone could be used to control aspects of a game like the way it’s used for the DS. I’m not sure that this is true though because Nintendo keeps saying that they are making a games console and not a multimedia device so it would seem more likely for them to exclude such a feature and focus instead on gaming. There have been other rumors saying that the Wii will have a built in camera for video conferencing among other things. Also in an interview with IGN a Nintendo spokeperson said that there are still secrets to be revealed about the Wii.

If they offer VoIP they would need to be partnered with one of the leading VoIP Services. That means Nintendo should be partnered with Lingo or such.
Otherwise, they could offer to work with one of the VoIP, meaning they aren’t partnered with Lingo, but they could create a phone that works with it…
Yeh I agree, the xbox headset is hideous, it really puts me off, and makes you look like an idiot. This would also make for interesting game play, a karaoke tyke DDR game would rock!
