Silent Hill 5 and the Wii Usage Catch 22

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed.

I posted last week on Wii Blog about concerns of “Wii Boredom” popping up lately, and now it seems that this type of mentality is starting to affect game development for the Wii.

Most people seem to think that if there is any Wii boredom, it is because there is a lack of interesting titles out there for the console. This seems like a bit of a catch 22.

Gamepro reports that a designer for Konami said he doubts that Silent Hill 5 will be released for the Wii, due to Wii “usage concerns”. If this is in fact the case, then maybe someone should tell Konami that if they make an interesting product, people will buy it.

Would Silent Hill 5 be an interesting product for the Wii? Probably to many. I kind of have my doubts based on the last Silent Hill game I played (that is more based on my opinion of the game and really has nothing to do with the console), but I think the franchise is a big enough hit to spark some interest, especially with what would potentially be a new spin on it with the Wii Controls.

But I guess Konami doesn’t think it’s worth it to even try. Hopefully this kind of thinking won’t be too contagious among game developers. It’s hard to believe that it is even a concern at this point since retailers can’t even keep the consoles on the shelves.

I agree - where is this “Wii boredom” idea coming from?

I’m getting on in my years, 28 and aging at an alarming rate of 1/365th of a year per day, and I have to say that I played my last gen consoles for a few months and then stopped all together, but I’m still playing my Wii weekly (which is a lot, in comparison.)

I don’t think it’s boring in any way, shape or form, in fact quite the opposite. Video games in general bore me, sitting there doing the same old garbage: slowing time, power combos, any first person shooter….

At least with Wii I can move around and get into the game a bit more, figuring different things to do rather than jump on another mushroom’s head.
