Nintendo Assists In Wii Piracy Crackdown

A Hong Kong court ordered a raid which lead to the seizure of 10,000 game copying devices and mod chips for the Nintendo Wii.

The two places in question, Supreme Factory Ltd. and Diveneo SRL, were also ordered to stop further distribution of their products, according to Bloomberg.com.

The mod chips that were seized in the raid make it possible to play illegally copied games, while some of the other devices actually allow you to copy the games.

“Piracy affects the entire video-game industry,” Jodi Daugherty, director of Nintendo of America’s anti-piracy office, said in a statement. “Copying the developers’ work and spreading the game files globally is blatant stealing.”

Will this stop gaming piracy? The answer is no…. but maybe Nintendo can sleep easier at night knowing they put a dent into it, however small of a dent it is.
