Rumor Control: No New Wii Colors for Japan in 2008

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed.

Have you heard the rumor about Japan getting the Wii in more colors than just white in 2008? You haven’t… well don’t get to excited - it’s all a lie.

Kotaku.com has the original rumor…

According to a rumor allegedly sourced from the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu magazine, Nintendo plans to introduce new Wii colors to coincide with the Japanese release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. According to supposed early leaks from the magazine, Japan will have the chance to buy the Wii in five colors: red, diamond black, mint blue, snow pink, and Famicom-themed red and gold. The package would include a copy of Brawl, two Wii remotes and two nunchuk controllers. The Brawl bundle is reported to retail for 35000 yen, about $310 US.

I’m sure most of you are thinking it… I’m just saying it - what kind of colors are those? They even sound fake.

Well apparently, the source of the rumors has admitted that the above info was fraudulent. He/She is currently being beaten with a Wiimote - and it doesn’t even have the safety Wii sleeve on… oh the humanity.

So do you think we’ll ever see the Wii come in more colors than milk?

at this point, i’d love to see more colors than just milky-not-quite-eggshell-but-certainly-lighter-than-ivory white. when the gamecube came out all i wanted was a purple one, so sue me. i get tired of the boring spectrum of colors…so i hope that big n will come out with more than just the current slate of one. but will it happen? sure, after they’ve gotten all of our cash from wii v1, but when wii 1.5 comes out, they’ll have it in multiple colors (ds anyone?)
