Be A Better Surgeon… Pick Up The Wiimote

A recent US Study shows that trainee surgeons performed better after playing games on the Nintendo Wii. Those who warmed up to the console scored around 48% better for tool control, according to Telegraph.co.uk

Dr Kanav Kohel and Dr Marshall Smith, of the Banner Good Samaritan Medical Centre in Phoenix, Arizona, are developing a programme that uses this function to help trainees practice the specific physical movements involved in surgical procedures.

They believe the software could help surgeons improve their skills by practicing at home, and play an important role in the medical education in the developing world where there is less access to expensive virtual training tools.

They also stated that certain games like “Marble Mania“, a game that requires very precise maneuvers, were found to help the trainees develop their craft.

This is a pretty awesome utilization of the Wii, crazy to think that by training with the console might actually help save some lives.
