Silent Hill Shattered Memories

It’s been rumored for a while, but now it’s confirmed. Edge Online reports Konami will be bringing Silent Hill: Shattered Memories — seventh game in the popular series. The game is also coming to the PS2 and PSP, and will be a “re-imagining” of the original Silent Hill.

Konami has a few Wii-specific enhancements planned. Players will use the Wii Remote as a flashlight to explore the spooky environments. The remote will also be used as a cell phone — among other functions. The game will also feature an entirely-new musical score by series composer Akira Yamaoka.

Ars Technica’s Ben Kochera notes that the Wii is an attractive option for developers in a troubled economy, and gamers can look for more Wii-PS2-PSP games in the future. Kochera also cites Okami and Manhunt 2 as other Wii titles with a similar developmental model. It’s ironic that the PS3 and Xbox 360’s graphical prowess is coming back to haunt them now as companies are running short on cash.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories will be developed by Climax, the game studio behind 2007’s Silent Hill: Origins. The game will be a good test of the Wii as a budget-friendly development option. Hopefully Wii gamers will get a good, scary gaming experience out of it, too.
