Vitrua Tennis ‘09!

I have to admit, I’ve pushed Sega’s Vitrua Tennis 2009 to the back burner. With EA’s Grand Slam Tennis coming up, VT09 just hasn’t gotten any play. Well, that’s about to change.

The first thing you need to know is VT09 is not Grand Slam Tennis. The entire package is different, from the look and feel of the game to the way it plays. Sega’s title goes for a more realistic look as far as character design goes. It’s not HD level models like the PS3 title offers but, they look pretty good. These are definitely not the Mii version of your favorite players. The gameplay is also said to offer a bit of a learning curve, especially if you plan on playing with Wii Motion Plus. Yes, VT09 fully supports Ninty’s add-on. One thing I found interesting that I’ve either overlooked or isn’t available for Grand Slam Tennis, is the fact that you can use the nunchuck to control character movement. In my opinion, that would make this game ridiculously hard. Some will probably find it too hard, which is probably why the development team allows you to play sans nunchuck. Virtua Tennis 2009 also has a robust online mode, something else I’ve overlooked or not heard about for GST. They’ve packed pretty much everything into this title for the Wii that they did for the PS3 or 360, only we also get Wii Motion Plus. Take that suckas!! IGN posted a nice little walkthrough of the title with some interviews with different members of the development team, it shows some really nice gameplay and they talk a bit about the pros of the control scheme. Virtua Tennis 2009 is set to release June 2. This is looking to be a great alternative for those who want a slightly more realistic alternative to Grand Slam Tennis. Enjoy the walkthrough below.
