So we all know there is a “Big Game” coming this holiday season for the Nintendo Wii… but do we now know what it is? Could it be the beloved Kid Icarus?

IGN’s Matt Casamassina has “pretty much” confirmed what most were speculating: that it’s Kid Icarus. Recently Casamassina was speaking on IGN’s Nintendo Voice Chat podcast, where he said…

Of course [Nintendo is] going to have some E3 surprises. You know, Kid Icarus, for crying out loud, how many times do we have to say Kid Icarus? Kid Icarus is coming for crying out loud.

Sounds like someone needs to switch to Decaf… but in any case could this be the elusive “Big Game” that was hinted about early in the year?

Nothing against Kid Icarus or his fans, but I was expecting something else for the “Big Game”. For example: I put Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, and Mario Kart Wii in the “Big Game” column… and to me Kid Icarus just doesn’t seem to fit in with those… but hey, what do I know.

So in closing let me leave you with the words of the immortal words of Kid Icarus in SSBB…”Ha Ya Ya Ya Ya Ya”.

New Fitness Game Coming From EA

EA and their recently created Freestyle label want to jump on the Wii Fit bandwagon. EA Sports president (Mr. Peter Moore) has announced that they will develop a new fitness game that uses the Wii Fit Balance Board. Only difference is that the EA/Freestyle release will focus more on “western” cardio-vascular workouts, compared with the “eastern holistic fitness” of Nintendo’s Wii Fit, according to Eurogamer.net.

While speaking at a three day EA Sports showcase in Vancouver Moore talked a little about what he wanted from the game…

We think we have to have a role to play with that mum - the kids have gone to school, she’s got 45 minutes on her own, the Wii is there, it’s the first console she’s ever liked because she can do things herself. And we’re working on stuff, trying to work out how we can use EA Sports applications there.

We also need to make sure we’re delivering something that’s truly exercise. I’ll call [Wii Fit] more eastern fitness, where it senses weight and balance, like Tai-Chi. It’s more about holistic fitness. I don’t think the board is going to take a pounding. We need to look more at western fitness in which I can actually be moving and start to sweat a little bit, and that’s what we’re working on right now.

The EA Sports boss went on to say that the EA/Freestyle… much like Wii Fit… is going to focus on fitness through “FUN”.

The difference is you’re distracted. We need to distract people and not make this exercise feel like work, but like they’re having fun. So mini-games, things where you’re actually laughing out loud, that’s the stuff we’re working on. It’s something I’ve always been passionate about, and who better than us to go and play in that market?

All sounds pretty good… depending on the sales of this… but this could turn into a whole fitness series. Which could do wonders for the overweight youth in the country today.

So if anyone is in New York City on May 19th… be sure to mosey over to Central Park, as Nintendo is holding a special release event for Wii Fit.

The event will take place at the Merchants’ Gate of Central Park, from 8am until 5pm. At the event, famous personal trainer Ashley Borden will be providing a personal training session with the Balance Board and Nintendo’s software.

No, there won’t be any sort of tournament or prizes being awarded… but there is something profoundly better going on. For every person that attends the event and just tries Wii Fit out Nintendo will donate $5 per person (up to $25,000) to the American Heart Association.

So take a few minutes out of your busy day to make sure that the full $25,000 gets donated.

Apparently GameStop has stopped accepting preorders for the already popular Wii Fit in the U.S. Reason for this is quite simple… all the units for which GameStop had been allotted have been reserved.

Wii Fit

IGN was the one who first told of the preorder stoppage…

GameStop has confirmed to IGN it has ceased accepting pre-orders for the exercise program. Gamers eager to get in shape have apparently reserved all the units Nintendo has allotted the retail chain.

Well… I’m sure glad I preordered my copy of Wii Fit this past Sunday at my local GameStop (#3883).

Anyone think there will be a Wii Fit shortage?

So your Wii is glowing blue… must be time for an update.

Wait a second, this isn’t an everyday “run-of-the-mill” update… the Nintendo Channel is ready for download. Oh, and by the way… it’s FREE!

NintendoWiiFanboy has a written a “mini-review” of the channel…

We’re pretty pleased with what the channel has to offer so far. There’s already around forty videos available for your viewing pleasure. Most of them are just trailers for upcoming Nintendo games, but there’s also a nice little Miyamoto interview.

Personally, I’ve not had my Wii on since this past Sunday when I was playing Mario Kart Wii… so I’m looking forward to powering up and downloading this channel. Anyone else going to download it?
