So your Wii is glowing blue… must be time for an update.

Wait a second, this isn’t an everyday “run-of-the-mill” update… the Nintendo Channel is ready for download. Oh, and by the way… it’s FREE!

NintendoWiiFanboy has a written a “mini-review” of the channel…

We’re pretty pleased with what the channel has to offer so far. There’s already around forty videos available for your viewing pleasure. Most of them are just trailers for upcoming Nintendo games, but there’s also a nice little Miyamoto interview.

Personally, I’ve not had my Wii on since this past Sunday when I was playing Mario Kart Wii… so I’m looking forward to powering up and downloading this channel. Anyone else going to download it?

Rock Band DLC Problem Solved?

We all know that Rock Band hasn’t hit for the Nintendo Wii yet… but it seems that the powers at be have “solved” the DLC issue. (I use the term “solved” lightly).

Apparently the answer is to plop down $29.99 for an additional disc that contains 20 songs… oh and by the way, you don’t get to pick the songs… your stuck with what they give you.

NintendoWiiFanboy is where I first read of this travesty… I’m with them on this one.

It’s one thing — and an acceptable thing — to milk customers for a few bucks at a time for additional songs they really want. It’s another thing altogether to offer up a full expansion for thirty dollars less than a month after the game is released. That’s right: Rock Band isn’t scheduled for the Wii until June 22, and this Track Pack is due July 15. And it’s labeled Volume 1, naturally … expect another round not long after that. We’re anticipating September.

So what’s the deal Harmoix… are that hard pressed for cash you gotta milk every last dime out of your fan base.

For shame.

Want a Giant Floor Mat NES Controller?

Check out the video below on how to build a giant NES controller.

WiiMan

Sure you’ve heard of Superman, Spiderman, Iron Man, Batman… but have you ever heard of WiiMan?

WiiMan... WTF?

Here is a quote from WiiMan’s blogspot about his origins…

Guys, I have an idea for GarageGeeks KinnerNet 2008 project. it combines Gaming, Technology and Useless Activity to the extreme. Building a full action figure custom of a super hero called WiiMan. The custom (that I don’t mind wearing) acts as a fully functional Nintendo WiiMote remote with buttons, bluetooth, accelerometers, and an IR cam. imagine this setup on the stage, a young boy plays Wii, and he is frustrated from his score. He thinks out loud “if only WiiMan was here to help me” WiiMan enter the scene with his waving cloak and plays with the boy.

So if you ever have a need for WiiMan… just go ahead and look directly at the sun… don’t be afraid… it’s better for everyone this way.

No More Updates for the DOJO

It’s a sad day for any fan of the Smash Bros. DOJO… as this past Monday marked the end of the daily updates. I’m not sure about the rest of you… but I enjoyed going to the DOJO and reading about the latest ongoings with SSBB.

Currently when you go to the site, you are greeted with the following message.

This Smash blog has spanned about 300 posts in almost 11 months, but now it is time to say goodbye.

Before creating this site, I knew I wanted it to be updated 5 days a week and support several languages. It was clear that this would be a massive scale for a website dedicated to a single game.

A lot of people around me were particularly concerned when I told them I planned to write blog posts while development was ongoing and continue to provide updates. Some argued, some just looked concerned, and others asked, “Can you really do this?!”

And all of the text in the articles was written by yours truly, Masahiro Sakurai. Make no mistake.

But the real credit for making the unthinkable possible should go to the Brawl staff who took screenshots and did follow-up work, and the Nintendo home-page staff who did the updates.

I also must thank the localization staff of Nintendo of America, who did the translation from Japanese to English, as well as the language specialists on the European production staff who handled the translation to several more languages.

I feel gratitude for those who helped that I can barely express in words. This site has been supported by so many staff members.

I created the Dojo with the intention of offering breaking news-type updates prior to the release of the game, and organizing the site so that it could be used as a database of features in the game after its release.

Now that Brawl is available, I am hoping that players will continue to use the site as a resource for information.

Also, there’s always a chance that I will need to update sometime in the future with some kind of announcement.

Thank you, everyone!
